MacBook, iMac and external displays
Notcher requires macOS 14 or newer on Apple silicon. On MacBooks with a notch the interface wraps around the camera area; on Macs without one it appears centred at the top of the screen.
MacBook Pro and MacBook Air with a notch
The best experience is on MacBook Pro 14" and 16" from 2021 and MacBook Air 13" and 15" from 2022. There Notcher wraps the existing notch, so the interface genuinely grows out of the camera area — like a Dynamic Island.
iMac, Mac mini and Mac Studio
These Macs have no physical notch, so Notcher floats the interface centred at the top edge. The features are identical, only the look is less built-in.
External monitors
External displays have no notch either; the interface sits centred at the top of that screen.
Requirements at a glance
- macOS 14 (Sonoma) or newer
- Apple silicon (M1 or newer); the test build is not a universal binary
- Version 0.8.3 (Build 16), direct DMG download without an account
- Locally signed, not notarized by Apple
- Hiding menu bar groups is disabled on macOS 27+
Installation
Open the DMG, drag Notcher into Applications, eject the DMG. On first launch macOS may show a security warning because the app is not notarized. More answers in the FAQ.
